Bournemouth University in the UK created the BU Sports Scholarship to fund students who are interested in playing sports while studying. The BU Sports Scholarship is available to both domestic and international students pursuing undergraduate or postgraduate studies at the university.
Bournemouth University is a public university in Bournemouth, England, with its main campus in neighboring Poole. The university was founded in 1992; however, its predecessor dates back to the early 20th century. Currently, over 16,000 students study at the university, including over 3,000 foreign students.
- Any candidate for a full-time undergraduate or postgraduate program taught at BU
- Be a successful athlete and have a desire to further develop in the sports arena as well as academically.
- The candidate must demonstrate excellence in their chosen sport, belong to and compete at a regional, national and/or international team.
Athletes receiving a scholarship will ideally represent BU in the BUCS program (league and individual) as well as themselves and/or their club at a regional, national or international level. Individual athletes will also have to compete against the best players as part of the BUCS program.
If you receive a scholarship, you will need to meet with the sports performance manager to assess how the funds will help you throughout the year, commit to 75% of your training sessions, represent BU in sports competitions if possible to raise rank of SportBU’s activities and to be included in marketing materials.
As part of your BU Sports Scholarship application, you will be required to take part in the BU Sports trial process and be assessed by their coach.
To guarantee that your application is complete, it’s necessary to have a reference from a High-Performance Coach or a coach from a National Governing Body. If the sport you are applying for is not part of their performance BUCS program, then it’s crucial that you send two references along with your application.
Benefits of the scholarship
Valued at £5,000, the scholarship offers financial aid that can be utilized for coaching, equipment, travel expenses, competition entry fees, or support services.
